Agency resolves 80 per cent of complaints against IKEDC

Over 80 per cent of complaints against the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) were resolved amicably at a stakeholders’ parley held at the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) office, it has been learnt.

A statement by the Chief Public Affairs Officer, Toyin Oni, said the parley was presided over by LASCOPA’s Head of Complaint and Mediation, Olusesan Olukole.

According to the statement, IKEDC promised to meter Adediran Olatunji, who complained about excessive billing and inability to get prepaid meter after payment, within 72 hours. IKEDC also promised to report to LASCOPA, in two weeks, efforts taken to address issues not resolved during the parley.

Olukole, who expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached, urged other aggrieved residents to follow due process of seeking redress rather than resorting to self-help or attacking IKEDC officials.

He explained that LASCOPA’s interventions are beyond consumable products as the agency is allowed to intervene in matters of poor or unsatisfactory service delivery.

LASCOPA Board Secretary Arinola Momoh-Ayokanmbi advised IKEDC to expedite action on the complaints and resolve them within the stipulated period as promised. She also thanked the complainants and respondent for the understanding displayed during the parley.
