Last weekend, ” Avatar: The Way of Water ” made another box office spurt. The action-packed blockbuster about the people of the planet Pandora left behind ” Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($2.071 billion), bringing its global revenue to $2.116.5 billion. Thus, James Cameron’s picture rose to fourth place in the list of the highest grossing projects in the history of cinema. In the near future, “The Way of Water” may bypass the ” Titanic ” ($ 2.194.6 billion) in fees. Only Avengers: Endgame ($2.799.4 billion) and the original Avatar ($2.923.7 billion) are ahead.
Another weekend in the US brought “Avatar 2” another $15.7 million, with a drop of 22% compared with the fees at the end of last weekend. In just 45 days on the screens, the sequel grossed $620.5 million in North America. It is worth noting that in the US, the second part is somewhat ahead of the original – at this stage, Avatar (2009) was $595.7 million.
Notably, the original Avatar also topped the weekend seven times, after which it lost the lead to the melodrama Dear John. With the sequel, the situation may repeat itself, because this week the mystical thriller by M. Night Shyamalan ” Knock on the Door ” starts in theaters.
Today, Avatar 2 will surpass the North American box office of the first Avengers ($623.3 million) and enter the top ten highest-grossing local releases.
