Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari), a new animation by Makoto Shinkai , has grossed ¥11.35 billion (about US$87 million) since its theatrical release in Japan. Production has already surpassed the results of the final Evangelion film and any of the Detective Conan feature films .
Currently, Suzume is the 30th highest grossing of all time in the Land of the Rising Sun. Its position jumps to 11th if only “anime movies” are considered.
Demon Slayer , five Studio Ghibli productions , the last two Shinkai stories, One Piece Film – Red , and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 are the only animated titles that have made the most money in this market (via Anime News Network ).
Suzume no Tojimari follows the story of a young woman who lives an ordinary life in a small town in the Kyushu region — until she meets a traveler who is looking for a mysterious door. What the girl didn’t expect is that pulling the doorknob would unleash destruction across Japan.
The film premiered on November 11, but will hit Brazilian theaters on April 13, 2023 . Distribution will be handled by Crunchyroll and Sony .
