With its first episode aired in Japan in 1999, One Piece continues to release new episodes to this day. In all, the anime already has more than 990 chapters. No wonder, the acclaimed show that follows the dangerous adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates has earned the nickname “infinite anime”. But that doesn’t stop the production from being successful all over the world. In fact, One Piece continues to conquer new admirers and maintain its already consolidated fan base, which you can check here for a summary of all the sagas released so far.
1. East Blue Saga
Episodes: 1 to 61
The saga that marks the beginning of One Piece begins by showing us how the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy accidentally consumed the Devil Fruit and gained his rubber abilities as a child. Although the fruit also caused him to lose his ability to swim, he didn’t let it affect his dream of finding the One Piece treasure and becoming the Pirate King.
Over the years, Luffy learns to better control his abilities. In the course of the episodes, he recruits his crew, living different adventures and great dangers with each new crew member he tries to convince to join his team.
In this saga, the protagonist faces different conflicts. The fight against a navy captain. The clash with the dangerous pirate Buggy and the feared Captain Kuro. The conquest of the Going Merry (first ship of Luffy’s group). The moment he comes face to face with the tyrannical Arlong. Luffy went through all of this as he gathered other adventurers in his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, which until now consisted of Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Usopp and Sanji.
2. Alabasta Saga
Episodes: 62 to 135
This saga begins with the Straw Hat crew embarking on an adventure into the dangerous rapids of Reverse Mountain. The objective is to enter the Grand Line, the ocean current known to be the most dangerous region of the ocean in the entire world, which is why it has earned the nickname “pirate graveyard”.
As of the second arc of this saga, Luffy is already in possession of the Log Pose, the essential navigation device to travel the Grand Line. They end up on Whiskey Peak, the first island the Straw Hats find on their way. The place is known for its warm welcome to pirates, but Luffy’s crew soon discovers that there are many secrets behind this supposed reception.
The second island visited by Luffy’s pirates is Little Garden, a summer island inhabited by prehistoric plants and animals and two giants, Dorry and Brogy. Marked by the feared Baroque Works’ pursuit of the giants and the war the giants themselves seem destined to wage, this arc is known for its scenes of violence.
Nami ends up catching a deadly fever in Little Garden, which causes Luffy’s crew to leave for the next island, Drum Island. There they look for a doctor for the pirate. After facing attacks from other pirates and different creatures, they meet Tony Tony Chopper, who joins the group and becomes the crew’s doctor.
3. Skypiea Saga
Episodes: 136 to 206
Two filler arcs mark the beginning of this saga. In the first, Luffy and his team arrive at an island inhabited by a large number of sheep. There, they take the opportunity to help a man, as he evades the navy’s pursuit. In the second, the attempt to evade the navy leads the group of pirates to Ruluka Island. The place was run by a dictator that Luffy’s team tries to face. At the same time, they struggle to survive the use of the Rainbow mist, a kind of mist that opens a portal to another dimension and is used to capture the crew.
The Straw Hats kick off the Jaya Arc with a new crewmate, Nico Robin. In this arc, the pirates try to solve the mystery of a boat that fell from the sky and a map that shows a city called Skypiea, while facing off against the pirates of Masira. The adventure ends up taking the crew to the island of Jaya, where the port city Mock Town, known for being full of pirates, is located.
In the Skypiea arc , Luffy’s group arrives at the island in the sky known as Skypiea. Although his trip to the place was motivated by the search for another one, the crew ends up realizing that the island is in danger of being destroyed by the feared Enel.
4. Water Saga 7
Episodes: 207 to 325
Also known as the Enies Lobby Saga or the CP9 Saga , this saga begins with the Long Ring Long Land arc. This arc was the first of the anime to be broadcast on Adult Swim. Finally, in the arc that gives its name to the saga, the Straw Hats arrive at Water Island 7, the 7th they visit on the Grand Line. In this metropolis of water, Luffy’s crew, who seemed to be doing very well, enter into a skirmish with a mysterious organization called CP9. From there, the episodes bring multiple twists that took anime fans by surprise.
The next arc marks the union between the Straw Hats, Sogeking, the Franky Family and the owners of the Galley-La Company. All this to rescue Nico Robin and Franky. But they will need the forces of the World Government, including the dangerous organization CP9. The dangerous clash continues and Luffy declares war on the Government.
