‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Is Happening on Netflix, Gi-Hun Will Return

Netflix’s mystery thriller Squid Game took the entire world by storm this past year, becoming the number one Netflix show in 90 countries and counting. The first season’s nine episodes were devoured, prompting the masses for news on a second season. The immediate answer from creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, was a weary maybe, as the series was extremely taxing in comparison to making a film. There was a collective groan. But, chin up! He has been convinced!

“So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season,” the Squid Game creator said speaking with the Associated Press. “So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say, there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how it’s going to happen. So I will promise you this… Gi-hun will come back, he’ll do something for the world.”

Crisis averted! When initially approached about a second season, it sounded as though Hwang Dong-hyuk was on the fence. “In my earlier days, I’d drink half a bottle of soju (Korean liquor) to get the creative juices flowing. I can’t do that any more,” he said. “Writing (Squid Game) was harder than normal for me as it was a series, not a film. It took me six months to write and rewrite the first two episodes. Then I consulted verbally with friends, and picked up clues for improvements through my own pitching and from their responses.”

Then the crushing blow, “I don’t have well developed plans for Squid Game 2. It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors,” he said.

If you’ve been living under a pile of rocks with earplugs in place at all times, Squid Game is described by Netflix as, “Hundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children’s games. Inside, a tempting prize awaits – with deadly high stakes.” While that description does sum it up, for the viewers, it was so much more! If you haven’t pushed play to at least take in the first episode, you’re one of the few. Squid Game is breaking records across the globe in viewership.

Hwang Dong-hyuk (The Fortress) wrote and directed all nine episodes, while the cast features Lee Jung-jae (Chief of Staff), Park Hae-soo (Yungnyong-i Nareusya), Yeong-su Oh (The Great Queen Seondeok), Wi Ha-Joon (The Greatest Divorce), fashion model Jung Ho-yeon, Heo Sung-tae (Your Honor), Anupam Tripathi and Joo-ryeong Kim.

We might be waiting Stranger Things- style, as it seems Hwang Dong-hyuk puts his heart into everything he does. The entire world is waiting and will be tuning in. No pressure! Squid Game season 1 is available now on Netflix. This news originated at Yahoo.
