The Last of Us has been officially renewed for a second season.

The post-apocalyptic show continues to grow its audience. After an incredibly inspiring start, the question of a potential second season of the multi-episode adaptation of the video game “The Last of Us ” was no longer in doubt for many, and the cable channel HBO confirmed this the other day. Without waiting for the premiere of the third episode, the network officially announced the sequel.

Aired in mid-January, the debut episode garnered a whopping 22 million views in the US, according to Deadline. The second series showed the strongest two-week growth in the block of original projects of HBO, having collected 5.7 million viewers at the screens.

The following is a quote from Neil Druckmann, creator of the original video game and co-creator of the series:

“I am honored and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have joined in our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. Working with showrunner Craig Mazin , our incredible cast and crew, and HBO has exceeded my already high expectations. Now we are happy to make a second season!”.

The fourth episode of The Last of Us will air on February 6.
